Hello,
I'm Matt and I am the creative director at Subject Matter Games (
Subject Matter Games). We are currently beginning pre-production on a new project codenamed 'Hyperion' and are seeking 2-3 artists to help drive and produce the art style and assets found in the final game.
What is Hyperion?
Without going into too much detail, the project will be a single-player first-person shooter set on a fictional space station. Hyperion is being developed using the Unity engine.
Who Are We Looking For?
We need 2-3 talented artists that can concept and (ideally) model 3D objects and/or environments. Here is our planned art creation pipeline:
1) Produce a concept sketch of the object/environment (Somewhat optional)
2) Create the object in object modeling software (we use Blender but you can use what you've got that can export OBJ or FBX)
1. Optionally, add base textures
3) Finish textures and materials in Substance Painter/Designer
4) Import and use within Unity
You would be responsible for steps 1-2 and hopefully 3. We realize the Substance tools are newer and we are learning them as well. We are willing to work on the details of this pipeline but this is the one we've been using for our current pre-production demos.
When Do I Get Paid?
If you would like to join the team, payment will be based on the amount of work done, payable after the product ships.
If you would prefer a 'contract' position, please provide your rates in your email. Note: As an indie team, we can only support up to one contract position and only for a small period of time.
Full credit will be provided in the game and team members will be listed on the company website.

Miscellaneous Stuff
Other Art Tools We Use
Other tools we use include Mixamo Fuse and Photoshop CC. Considering we're still in pre-production, we are still investigating the possibility of other ways to develop our art, such as using Microsoft Kinect's for motion capture.
What is the Setting?
Imagine an elongated vertical diamond shaped space station the size of a small moon, where humans live without contact from Earth. Where the entire shell of the station is triple reinforced transparent plastic poly blend, revealing massive rooms of artificial forests, layer after layer of living quarters, and layers of mechanical machinery and data stores. Imagine a happy afternoon in a park where the birds are holographic and the sky is a perfectly painted blue (because it is) with the emptiness of space only a few feet away.
Now imagine an invasion; an unexpected, unprovoked, and ruthless attack from an alien species on this isolated station...
Why Single-Player?
Developing the game as a single-player only product allows us to focus on several key areas: story, gameplay, and art. It is our belief that focusing on these key essentials and giving them each enough development time will produce a great result.
Who is Subject Matter Games?
Subject Matter Games is an indie game development company started earlier in 2014 with one goal: create the games the team wants to play.
Recently, Subject Matter published 'Don't Be Dinner' to the Windows 8 store, an interactive fiction where the player is given 2 choices in the story which determines one of 45 possible endings. Though the game has a small amount of downloads, it was developed by 1 developer with 1 voice artist and averages a 4/5 based on 5 reviews.
Don't Be Dinner was intended as a 'starter' project, a tech demo that became a released title. With this project, the scope and intent is much larger. We know we can do this, and we want you to be a part of it.
